Grace Baptist Church History

The first worship service of Grace Baptist Chapel was held by Rev. Stanley Frye, on Feb. 11th, 1973. The Mission was sponsored by the Alexander Baptist Association in cooperation with the First Baptist Church in Taylorsville. After eight months, the mission was organized into a church on November 11th, 1973, with forty-nine charter  members.  The group was still conducting services in the mobile unit.  In December of 1973, the construction of a building was begun and the group entered the building for services for the first time in the spring of 1974.

In July 1976, the church called Rev. Richard G. Hicks as Pastor. Under his leadership, in June 1977, construction began on a new 7,000 square foot building for an education wing and fellowship hall.  The new wing was completed and officially dedicated on January 29, 1978. From 1979 through 1981, the fellowship hall was used for a daycare center as an outreach ministry to the community.

In August 1982, Rev. John Lee was called as Pastor and served through August of 1984.

In December of 1984, Grace Baptist welcomed Pastor Michael Blevins. During his eleven year tenure, Grace Baptist went under an extensive remodel of the sanctuary, the vestibule and built an arbor on the back of the church property.

In July 1996, Rev. John Gray became Pastor. In 1999, Pastor Gray led the church to open a Christian school for the children of church members. What a great blessing! It was in operation until Spring 2004.

In February 2006, Grace Baptist called Pastor Marcus Benfield to lead the church. Mid-year of 2007, Pastor Benfield led us through a major remodel of the fellowship hall and in 2008, Grace closed in the arbor building to be used more often for camp meeting style revivals, other church activities and storage of the church van.

With God's grace and many blessings, the church continues to grow spiritually and in number as God desires. After thirty-three years, we have begun a new building fund for future extended space to the sanctuary, restrooms in front of the church, handicap accessibility features and front driveway. We are excited and expecting God's guidance and provisions in order to continue the Gospel.
